ELEMENTARY LESSON PLAN FORMAT -ED 5471

An activity is not a lesson! It can lead a student toward critical exploration of his/her world but you must decide how you will do the following: engage the class in the activity, acquire and organize materials, question, connect to STSE etc. and also assess. There is no one absolute lesson plan template! You will discover a wide variety of templates upon research and eventually settle upon one most useful for you. However, at least the following components should be included in your lesson plan to be submitted to me.

(1) Title of Lesson

(2) Grade level

(3) Time Estimated for Lesson

(4) Outcomes Facilitated -draw from NS curriculum documents (from knowledge, STSE skills and attitude outcomes (be sure to encourage process skills in lesson, where able). Bullet and number outcomes
(5) Objectives of my lesson
(6) Materials Needed

(7) Procedure -this will include a number of components
    a) Scientific Literacy focus - inquiry, problem solving, decision making
    b) Introduction -setting the stage, so to speak. Will it be a discussion, activity , discrepant event,
        or problem to solve?
    c) Activity -description of how you will go about it ( include student grouping, if needed)
    d) Productive questions
    e) Closure -how you will wrap it all up (i.e. how will you help students to organize their thinking
        and pull the lesson together?

(8) Assessment Strategies

(9) Connections: STSE connections/Community connections (relevancy )

(10) Extensions / modifications

CHECK LIST FOR LESSON
