2002 Canadian National Championship

IPSC Nova Scotia is pleased to host the 2002 National Championships. The match will be held August 1-4, 2002 at the AMA range near the Halifax airport. As of November 4, 2001 the plan is for one day working, 2 days shooting and one day off. For those of you who remember the 1998 match this is the same club but we have added several new ranges. By the new year we will have a new website up with more details on it.

Intro to IPSC

IPSC stands for International Practical Shooting Confederation and is a sport that combines physical activity with shooting skills. While predominately a pistol discipline, there is a growing segment devoted to rifle and shotgun. IPSC (pronounced Ip-sic) came into existence in the US about 20 years ago and now is active in about 45 countries.

The sport uses centre-fire pistols of 9mm calibre or better and generally full power ammunition. Due to the fact that competitors will shoot a course of fire that may require them to run, scale walls and negotiate tunnels while engaging targets, against the pressure of the clock, IPSC makes for an enjoyable sport for the competitor and the spectator.

Participants are required to complete a 2 day safety course before competing in our sport. This has contributed to a clean record in regards to gun related accidents.

Currently in Nova Scotia there are clubs hosting matches in Oxford, Truro, Dartmouth, Kentville, and Yarmouth. Oxford and Truro are outdoors only, but the other three have indoor facilities, allowing for matches to continue through the winter. There are other clubs with IPSC members that do not yet host matches, that extend the interest into Cape Breton and down the South Shore.

Anyone interested in pistol competition and who is tired of bulls-eye is invited to attend a match and see what we are about or contact me at meek@glinx.com .
