Dictionaries for WordStar for Windows

Seeking to install a French dictionary in WSWin, I discovered that both AmiPro 3.1 and WSWin used the same CorrectSpell dictionaries. Lotus and WSWin have different means of accessing them. For example under Lotus, the French dictionary is identified as providing French and Canadian French. Under WSWin it is French and French accented.

But both programs access the same three dictionary files to achieve spelling, hyphenation, and thesaurus. In the case of the British thesaurus, a different file was need in conjunction with the first two.

Xoom Word Pro though accesses the language files in a different way, which is why the language files for it will not work with WSWin although WSWin is the same program. The two basic controller files for the two programs are the same.

        XMWin                                                     WSWin

        xmwlang.dll                                             wswlang.dll
        icdllwin.dll                                               icdllwin.dll
        ihdllwin.dll (IH/Standard Library)              ihdllwin.dll (IH/Standard Library)

But the change comes in how the language files are accessed. This is due to changes in the language control files themselves.

        XMWin                                                     WSWin

redllwin.dll (RE Reference Engine)             etdllwin.dll (RE Reference Engine)
        pddllwin.dll (personal dictionary)

This is  a result of INSO trying to improve the Houghton CorrectSpell speller (and creating program degradation by using the hyphenation files).  The result of the change is that XMWin is number specific with regard to the language files.

                                XMWin English                 WSWin English

    dictionary                iens9522.dat                      ienc.dat
    hyphenation            henis321.dat                      hecdp.dat
    US thesaurus           rektr300.dat                       rentf.dat
    UK thesaurus          reutr300.dat                       rbrtf.dat (lotusbr1.ths - 24/03/93)

                                XMWin French                       WSWin French

    dictionary               ifrf9531.dat                         ifrf.dat (lotusfr1.dic - 03/03/93)
    hyphenation            hfris410.dat                         hfrds.dat (lotusfr1.hyp - 17/08/92)
    thesaurus                rfrtf300.dat                          rfrtf.dat (lotusfr1.ths - 12/11/92)

What are the implications of Lotus and WSWin sharing the same language files? If one knows the names used by WSWin for the same dictionaries used by Lotus AmiPro or parts of the Lotus Smartsuite 96, then they can be installed in WSWin.
On this site are a Listing of CorrectSpell Dictionaries by Languages and CorrectSpell Dictionaries by Programs.
