Microsoft Office 97 comes with an intergrated schedualler, task manager and e-mail program in one package called Outlook 97. In order to send Internet e-mail you must set up the program.

Sometimes the problem will require a procedure to resolve the issue.

  • The steps will be numbered in the right margin,with the Title immediately left .
  • Thing you need to do will be in bold text.
  • Names of things displayed on you screen like program, menu, button and text box names will be in double quotes,"like this".
  • Explanations will be in plain text.
  • Things you need to type in will be in type text.
  • Defined words will be hyperlinked italic text.

Configure Outlook 97.

Open Outlook 97

Go to the tools menu and select services.

The "Services" dialog box will open.

Click the "Services" tab.

This shows you a list of services that are set up for this application.

Click the "Add..." button.

The "Add Service to Profile" dialog box will open.

From the "Available information services:" list, Double click "Internet Mail"

The "Internet Mail" dialog box will open. This is where you enter the information for Glinx mail account.

Click the "General" tab.

Enter the following information:

  • Full name: Type in your name as you want it to appear on you email that you send.
  • E-mail address: This looks like 'username@glinx.com', change the 'username' to your username.
  • Internet Mail Server: 'mail.glinx.com'
  • Account name: Enter your username here (the first part of your e-mail address.
  • Password: If you want Outlook to remember your password type it in now.

Click the "Advanced Options..." button.

The "Advanced Options" dialog box will open.

Enter 'smtp.glinx.com'

Click the "OK" button.

Back in the "Internet Mail" dialog box, click the "Connection" tab.

In the "Connecting to Internet Mail" frame, click the "Connect using the modem" radio button.

Select "Glinx Internet" from the drop list.

Click the "OK" button.

Click the "OK" button in the "Add Service To Profile" dialog box.

Click the "OK" button in the "Services" dialog box.

Close Microsoft Outlook 97.

The new service should now be available the next time you run this program.
